Large portrait-style photograph of Henry Bertram, a German immigrant who served as an officer in the 20th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the Civil War and later became prominent in local politics, appointed postmaster of Watertown, Wisconsin by President Andrew Johnson and elected as mayor of that city. The photograph shows a bearded Bertram from the knees up in Union coat with a colonel's insignia, holding a cigar in his right hand and a handkerchief in his left.
